  4. Download your transparent PNG (or GIF for animations).

This page starts in color mode, which gives pixel-perfect results on flat graphics. For photos, click Try AI instead, or go straight to our AI background remover.

This is the most common job. You have a logo or signature on a white background, and you need it see-through. Here's how:

  1. Upload the image.
  2. Click anywhere on the white area.
  3. Keep Only connected area turned on. This removes the outer white but keeps white parts inside your logo, like the center of an "O".
  4. If a thin light edge remains, raise the Tolerance a little.
  5. Download the PNG.

Turn Only connected area off to remove that color everywhere in the image, including enclosed spots.

Remove a Color From an Image

The same click works for any color, not only white. Remove a green screen, a black background or a colored box around a logo. Raise the Tolerance to remove a range of similar shades.

Make a GIF Background Transparent

Got an animated GIF with a solid background? Upload it here. Click the background color in the preview, and the tool removes it from every frame. You get a transparent animated GIF you can drop onto any page or chat.

About GIF transparency

GIF only supports fully clear or fully solid pixels, not soft edges. So the edges of a transparent GIF can look a bit rough on dark backgrounds. For smoother results on still images, download a PNG.

Why Use a Transparent Background?

A transparent PNG lets whatever is behind it show through. That's useful for:

  • Logos on websites, slides, videos and merchandise
  • Signatures pasted onto documents and PDFs
  • Stickers and emotes for chats and streams
  • Product images placed on colored banners
  • Overlays and watermarks

Remember, only some formats keep transparency. PNG, WebP, GIF and SVG do. JPG doesn't. If you save as JPG, the clear area turns solid. For more on this, see JPG vs PNG.

Private and Free

Everything runs in your browser. Your image isn't uploaded or stored, and there's no watermark on the result.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an image background transparent?

Upload it above and click the background. That color becomes transparent. Then download the PNG.

How do I remove a white background from an image?

Click on the white area. Keep "Only connected area" on to protect white parts inside your design. Raise the tolerance if light edges remain.

How does transparency in GIF work?

GIF pixels are either fully see-through or fully solid. The tool removes your chosen color from every frame and saves those pixels as transparent.

Can I make a GIF background transparent?

Yes. Upload the GIF and click its background color. The tool removes it from every frame and gives you a transparent GIF.

Why does my transparent image show a white background?

Some apps show transparency as white or a checkerboard. If you saved it as JPG, it really is white, because JPG can't store transparency. Save as PNG instead.

Is this better than AI background removal?

For flat graphics and logos, yes. It's exact. For photos with complex backgrounds, AI removal works better.
