Common Crop Ratios

RatioBest for
1:1Instagram square posts, profile pictures, product photos
4:5Instagram portrait posts
4:3Most phone photos, presentations
3:2Camera photos, 4 × 6 prints
16:9YouTube thumbnails, desktop wallpapers, slides
9:16Stories, Reels, TikTok, phone wallpapers

Matching the ratio before you upload or print stops other apps from cutting your photo in odd places. See our photo sizes guide for print ratios.

Crop to an Exact Size in Pixels

Need exactly 600 × 600 px for a form, or 1280 × 720 px for a thumbnail? Type the numbers in the Width and Height boxes. The crop box snaps to that size. Move it to frame your subject, then download.

If your image is smaller than the size you need, crop to the right shape first, then use our image resizer to scale it.

Crop PNG Images Without Losing Transparency

Choose PNG in "Save as" and transparent areas stay transparent. That's perfect for logos and stickers. JPG fills transparency with white, so avoid it for cutouts.

Make a Round Profile Picture

Want a circle instead of a rectangle? Use our circle crop tool. It's made for profile pictures and avatars.

How to Crop on Mac, Windows and iPhone

These work well for one image. The online cropper above adds exact pixel control and works the same everywhere. Cropping a screenshot? We have a full guide: How to Crop a Screenshot.
