How to Pixelate an Image
- Open your image. The whole picture pixelates right away.
- Set the block size. Bigger blocks hide more detail.
- Censor just part of it (optional). Choose "Select an area", drag the box over a face or text, and click "Apply to area". Repeat as needed.
- Download. Save as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Censor Faces, Plates and Private Info
Pixelation is the classic way to hide details in photos and screenshots. It's clear to viewers that something was hidden on purpose. Use it for:
- Faces of bystanders and children
- License plates and street numbers
- Names, usernames and email addresses
- Card numbers, account numbers and order IDs
- Offensive or sensitive content
Use big blocks for sensitive text
Small blocks can leave text partly readable. For passwords, card numbers or IDs, use a large block size so no letter shapes survive.
Make Pixel Art From a Photo
Pixelate the whole image with a medium block size for an 8-bit, retro game look. It works great for:
- Fun profile pictures
- Posters and album covers
- Game-style thumbnails
For crisp pixel art, save as PNG so the blocks stay sharp.
Pixelate vs Blur
Pixelation shows bold squares. Blur softens everything smoothly. Pixelation is usually the stronger way to hide text. Blur looks more natural for faces and backgrounds. Try both: our blur image tool works the same way.
