How to Convert PNG to GIF

Still GIF or Animated GIF?

One image = a still GIF. Useful when a site, forum or old system only accepts GIF files. It's also handy for simple graphics with few colors, where GIF files can be very small.

Keeping Transparency

PNG files often have transparent backgrounds. To keep them in the GIF, tick Transparent. One thing to know: GIF transparency is "on or off" for each pixel. Soft, semi-transparent edges (like shadows or anti-aliased curves) become hard edges.

Tip: if your logo has soft edges, it'll look best on a background color close to where you'll use it. Leave Transparent off and set the Border color to match.

JPG to GIF

JPG photos work the same way. Keep in mind that GIF can only show 256 colors. Photos with smooth skies or skin tones may look slightly grainy as a GIF. For still photos, JPG or PNG is usually the better format. Use GIF when you specifically need it, or for animation.
