How to Change the Color of an Image
- Open your image. PNG, JPG, WebP, SVG and HEIC all work.
- Click the color you want to change. For example, click a red shirt or the blue part of a logo.
- Pick the new color. Choose any shade with the color picker. The preview updates instantly.
- Fine-tune and download. Adjust the Tolerance, then save as PNG, JPG or WebP.
Want to change more than one color? Click Keep & pick another color, then click the next color in the image.
Two Ways to Recolor
| Mode | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Replace one color | Swaps one color (and close shades) for a new one | Logos, icons, clothes, cars, products |
| Change all colors | Shifts the hue of the whole image, or tints it one color | Creative effects, color variations, duotone looks |
Replace a Color and Keep the Shading
Real objects aren't one flat color. A red shirt has light folds and dark shadows. With Keep shading on, the tool changes the color but keeps those light and dark areas. The new color looks natural, not painted on.
Choose Flat color when you want a solid, even color. That's useful for flat logos and simple icons.
What Does Tolerance Do?
Tolerance decides how similar a pixel must be to the color you clicked before it changes.
- Low (5–15): changes only that exact color. Good for flat logos.
- Medium (15–30): catches light and dark versions of the color. Good for clothes and products.
- High (30–60): changes a wide range of shades. Can spill into nearby colors, so check the edges.
Change the Color of a Logo or PNG Icon
This is one of the most popular uses. Need your logo in white for a dark background, or in a client's brand color?
- Open the PNG logo.
- Click the logo color.
- Pick the new color, choose Flat color, and set a low tolerance.
- Save as PNG to keep the transparent background.
For a crisp logo you can scale to any size, convert the result with our PNG to SVG converter.
Changing the Background Instead?
To swap the background of a photo (not an object in it), use our change background color tool. It uses AI to find the subject first. For a plain see-through background, use the transparent background maker.
How to Change a Color in Photoshop
If you use Photoshop, these three methods do the same job:
- Image > Adjustments > Replace Color. Click the color with the eyedropper, set Fuzziness (like our tolerance), and change Hue, Saturation and Lightness.
- Color Replacement Tool. It's hidden under the Brush tool (press B). Paint over an area to recolor it while keeping texture.
- Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Pick a color range from the dropdown (Reds, Blues…) and move the Hue slider. It's non-destructive, so you can change it later.
Our free tool works like a simple version of Replace Color, right in your browser and without a subscription.
Ideas for Using It
- Show a product in several colors from one photo
- Match graphics to your brand colors
- Make dark-mode versions of logos and icons
- Try out hair, wall or car colors before you commit
- Create color variations of stickers and emotes
